My theory (which several share): -Michael found The Others. -They told him if he rescued Henry Gale, they would give back Walt. -Michael wanted to do it in a way that wouldn't catch anyones suspicion. -He decided to make it look like Henry escaped. Looks like there might be more to it though. Eko looks like he might be the next to go.
